Amman, Dec. 9 (Petra) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, in cooperation with the United Nations in Jordan, inaugurated a photography exhibition titled "Jordan and the United Nations: Seventy Years of Partnership" on Monday at the Hangar Gallery – Ras Al-Ain, celebrating seven decades of cooperation in developmental and humanitarian fields.

Secretary-General of the Ministry Daifallah Al-Fayez said the exhibition highlights Jordan’s history, identity, values, and its active global role. He noted that raising the Jordanian flag at the UN headquarters on December 14, 1955, marked a turning point, as Jordan joined the international community to promote peace, uphold human dignity, support international law, and continue this commitment to this day.

Al-Fayez added that Jordan has always chosen dialogue and wisdom over immediate calculations, carrying these values through participation in peacekeeping operations, where Jordanian officers, doctors, and soldiers have served with professionalism and courage, protecting civilians and supporting ceasefire agreements.

He underscored Jordan’s firm commitment to UN principles, defending peaceful solutions to conflicts, protecting international law and human rights, promoting humanitarian response, supporting refugees, advancing sustainable development, adapting to climate change, and contributing to a just digital future focused on people.

Al-Fayez also highlighted Jordan’s historical role as a trusted mediator in regional and international crises, its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, and its efforts to ensure the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, including establishing an independent state based on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He noted that Jordan, in cooperation with UN agencies, has hosted millions of refugees, saving lives, protecting children, ensuring education, and preserving the dignity of the most vulnerable, making this partnership a global model for humanitarian work.

UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan, Sheri Ritsema-Anderson, praised Jordan’s role in the international community, noting the country joined the UN seventy years ago, guided by principles of dignity, justice, and cooperation. She emphasized that the celebration honors a living partnership shaping the future of Jordan, the region, and the UN itself.

Anderson highlighted Jordan’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, including protecting health systems, expanding digital learning, safeguarding livelihoods, and ensuring refugees continued receiving essential services. She also noted Jordanian peacekeeping forces’ global contributions, recognized for discipline, professionalism, cultural understanding, and humanity in challenging environments.

The exhibition showcases Jordan’s service to humanity, from peacekeeping to diplomatic efforts and refugee support. Activities also highlighted Jordan’s role in promoting youth, peace, and security through UN Security Council Resolution 2250, recognizing youth as key partners in peacebuilding and conflict prevention. Crown Prince Al-Hussein addressed the council as the youngest speaker in its history, embodying the resolution’s spirit and emphasizing youth empowerment.

The exhibition will remain open for a month, offering the public a chance to explore Jordan’s partnership with the UN and its values of cooperation and humanity.
